U.S. Chamber of Commerce Names Alabama Small Business as a Finalist for Dream Big Award

It is easy to focus on the bad news about business and the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic, but business owners can and do persevere and innovate in challenging times like these.  As an entrepreneur, you are always looking for ways that your products or services can meet needs or solve problems experienced by consumers or businesses in your target market.  To do this in a financially sustainable way requires thoughtful decision making, determination, and a willingness to learn from past mistakes.  For all the grim forecasts about how many businesses will close in the near future as a result of the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, there are true stories of real business owners who have helped their businesses thrive during the pandemic.  Previously on this blog, we highlighted the success of Kenya Congress, the proprietor of Funnel Cake Queen in Decatur.  This week’s success story is a marketing firm in Alabama that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has chosen as a finalist for a Dream Big Award.

Public Relations Firm from Daphne Is One of Three Finalists for Woman-Owned Business Award

Every year, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce awards Dream Big Awards to small businesses that have made outstanding business achievements and contributions to the economy.  In September 2020, the Chamber of Commerce named three finalists in each of the following categories:

  • Emerging Business Achievement Award
  • Green/Sustainable Business Achievement Award
  • Minority-Owned Business Achievement Award
  • Veteran-Owned Business Achievement Award
  • Woman-Owned Business Achievement Award
  • Young Entrepreneur Achievement Award
  • Community Support and Leadership Award
  • Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award

The only Alabama business chosen as a finalist this year is JJPR Agency in Daphne.  The company takes its name from the initials of its proprietor Jennifer Jenkins.  The ten women of the JJPR team include nine from Alabama and one from Mississippi.  The company provides a variety of public relations and marketing services for its clients.  Its services include business websites, logo design, content marketing, social media management, email marketing campaigns, and public relations events, among others.  Although all the JJPR team members, it has served world-famous clients such as Cirque du Soleil and the BASF chemical company, as well as Alabama-based entities such as the City of Gulf Shores and the Alabama State Port Authority.  JJPR Agency has helped its clients gain publicity by placing content about them in such widely distributed outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, AdWeek, and Advertising Age.

Although the Chamber of Commerce has given an award in the Woman-Owned Business category for a number of years, it has introduced a new category for Dream Big Awards this year.  2020 is the first year that the Chamber of Commerce will give a Community Support and Leadership Award to a business that has helped its community thrive during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The winners in each category will be announced on October 15.
